About us

Who we are?

AKTANTEN IN AKTAU is a multidisciplinary association and the academic framework for research and capacity building in the “AKTANTEN IN AKTAU” consortium aims at the connection between the energy and environmental systems.

Collaborative efforts between German and Kazakh universities aim to advance research and teaching in the hydrogen economy and its logistical challenges.

What we do?

We are developing and supporting two Master’s programs and a Research program in the fields of Sustainable Energy Systems, Renewable Energy Technologies, Hydrogen and Green Mobility, and Sustainable Transport Management. The Master’s program in Sustainable Energy Management, coordinated by Hamburg university of Applied Science (HAW), focuses on developing expertise in sustainable energy systems and renewable technologies.

The Master’s program in Transportation Management, coordinated by the Technical University of Darmstadt (TUDa), emphasizes sustainable transport planning and green mobility solutions. These programs are hosted at the newly established German-Kazakh Institute for Sustainable Engineering Sciences (KINI) in Aktau.

In addition to the academic programs, the project promotes research cooperation through PhD program, joint research activities, co-supervision, and publications between German and Kazakh partners.

It also strengthens capacity building by offering workshops, trainings, and exchange programs for lecturers and students. Regular summer and winter schools, as well as monthly online workshops, provide further opportunities for academic exchange and collaboration.

The initiative is supported by Deutsch-Kasachische Universität (DKU) and Yessenov University (YU), which jointly focus on developing sustainable and green technologies. Together, they have established an institute for engineering sciences dedicated to the application of climate-friendly technologies, particularly in the field of hydrogen technologies.
